Why burn $100,000? I just don't understand

Below is a video of some unknown rappers (well to me) burning $100,000.

These are some very ignorant people. No one in their right mind would burn a large sum of money, especially in the economic state the country is in. They claim to be "getting money," if that is the case why don't they donate the extra money they have or invest it. You would not even see millionaires burn their money and they can afford to. I bet these rappers mothers are still living in the hood.

This video brings me to ask a question: Why do people have to show off and be so ignorant?

I believe it has something to do with rap music. Now, nothing is wrong with rap music, I grew up on it. We all have to admit the messages rappers send are not always so positive. To me Hip-Hop is a huge part of African-American culture. Every African-American child that lives in an urban area listens to it, they even idolize rappers. I can say that Jay-Z is one my idols
. I just think rappers need to send more positive messages in their music. Instead of rapping about hustling on the block, send the message that children should be hustling with their school work. Instead of rapping about being with a different girl every night, send the message that real men take care of their children. I commend rappers like Common, Talib, Kanye West, Jay -Z, Ludacris and others who send positive messages through their music. We African-Americans have to empower each other and not break each other down.

Is the Recession Affecting You?

Well it's official, the United States has been a recession for the whole year of 2008. A recession is defined as "a significant decline in [the] economic activity spread across the economy, lasting more than a few months." I'm not a economic major, but I know when the stock market drops a couple hundred points a day it cant be a good thing. Also, when banks have to be bailed out, that's definitely not a good thing. I really notice this recession hitting hard. People are unemployed, including me, and people can not get loans. Things really do not feel the same this holiday season, it feels like a lot of people are not shopping like they should.

Recessions are caused by things like war, inflation, and high interest rates. Lets just hope that our President elect and senators come up with a good economic plan because this recession has me kind of broke and I'm not feeling it.

President Bush gets a pair of shoes thrown at him

Apparently Bush had a surprise visit to Iraq and a reporter threw his shoes at him. Not one shoe, but both of them. In Iraq being hit with a shoe is very disrespectful, I would assume this anywhere else as well.

Single Family Homes In Urban Communities

Growing up in the Bronx, NY I always noticed that most of my friends only had one parent at home. A little confused growing up because I knew it took a male and female to create a child. Single parent homes are so common in my community it seems like it's normal. Most single parent households are missing the father.

  • In the graph notice how from 1970 to 2000 the number of Married couple families have decreased drastically and the number of single parent home have increased.

Why do some men abandon their children?

From what I notice and witness many of these single parents with children gave birth at a young age, maybe in their teenage years. Teenagers are not ready nor mature enough to take on the responsibility of raising a child. But, things happen and people are forced to face the reality of having a child at a young age. If this does happen both parents have to come to the plate care and provide for their child. FATHERS NEED TO STOP ABANDONING THEIR CHILDREN. Having a child is something that happens but, it is also something that takes planning.

How does growing up in a single parent household affect a child?

I wouldn't know from personal experience but, I don't think it has a positive effect on the child. I can say that it affects different children in different ways. The single parent is always working to get by on one persons income. Some children don't get the guidance or attention needed and they start to make the wrong decisions. Other children can see how their parent is struggling and want to better themselves and not go through the same struggles their parent has gone through. Many children with single parents do go on to acquire higher education and earn careers for themselves. They're other cases where another family member plays a role model to the child and kind of replaces the missing parent. I commend people who take care of children that are not theirs and care for them as if they were.

How can we fix the problem?

Sometimes I ask myself can this problem be fixed because it seems like a never ending cycle. But, to every problem there is a solution. My solution is education. If we educate our youth, teach them good morals and give them more opportunities to go to college then I believe that the number of teenagers having children will decrease and the number of single parent homes will decrease also. People who are educated are more focused on their career and have children when they're ready.

BARACK OBAMA ELECTED PRESIDENT

Barack Obama has been elected to be the next president of the United States of America. I am extremely happy to have witnessed this. I was a part of history the first time I was eligible to vote. I can say that I was apart of history.

I was watching CNN news when the electoral votes were coming in and when Barack won Ohio I knew it was over. The announcement that Barack Obama was predicted to win came in at around 11 O’clock and everyone went crazy. There were tears of excitement and surprise. The whole student body at my school were so excited we poured into the street and had a peaceful rally. Before Barack Obama I would never think that I would see an African-American president.

This is what happens when we work together to achieve the common goal. Barack being the first president of color shows that this nation has taken a huge step forward. It brings hope to young African Americans and will unite the African American community. But, the struggles aren’t over so we have to continue to work together to get what we need. Barack is an inspiration to many people including me, he has been through all the struggles and came out on top.

Now, we are ready for change. I have faith that Barack will steer our country in right direction. But, we have to remember that he is getting the country in the worst condition it has been in since the great depression. This country faces great challenges but, together we can bring change for better.

GET OUT THERE AND VOTE!!!

ELECTION DAY IS TUESDAY NOVEMBER 4TH..

Here's a message from the best rapper alive..

Friday, October 17, 2008

Why vote for Barack Obama?

  • Because you’re African-American do you feel pressured to vote for Barack Obama?
  • Don’t you want to be a part of history, the first African-American elected into presidential office?

Some people think the only reason that I’m voting for Barack Obama is because I’m African-American. Well people that’s not the only reason. Barack Obama is the best man for the job. I agree and support many of his plans. Obama plans on raising taxes for the wealthiest Americans - 5% of Americans - by only 3%. He plans on cutting taxes for 95% of working Americans. Obama also plans on making college affordable by giving college students a credit of $4,000 a year toward tuition.

6% of Americans are unemployed, that’s a huge number for unemployment. Obama will provide tax relief for small businesses and start-up companies. Obama will also increase federal support for research, technology, for com¬panies and universities to create new and advanced jobs.

I know that all campaigns are difficult, and both Obama and McCain have negatively attacked each other in one way but, McCain’s campaign has gone too far. McCain is now talking less about the issues and is attacking Obama more. At McCain rallies supporters are saying "kill him!” "terrorist" and "traitor” (referring to Obama). The McCain campaign should denounce these violent outbursts, but they haven’t even addressed them.

WHEN WILL OUR COUNTRY MOVE FORWARD?

Our government has to make a drastic change for the better. Our country cannot afford to have another Bush in office. McCain has voted the same as Bush 90% of the time. These are some reasons I support Barack Obama. Plus I want to be a part of history. (I’m not even going to mention Sarah Palin, everyone already knows what’s up with her)

808's and Heartbreaks..Kanye West

What do you think of Kanye using the vocalizer for his whole album?

When I first heard his first single "Love Lockdown" on the VMA's I was disappointed. But, I have to say that the song has grown on me. It has good lyrics and is getting catchy.

Check out his live performance on the Ellen show.

Heres a snippet of his next single "heartless"

I think this song is gonna be a hit.
